Cala Junco, Isola di Panarea (Ph. © FAI Photographic Archive)
The first donation made to FAI dates from 1976. The real estate owned by FAI encompasses 1,000m2 on the coast of Cala Junco, at the western edge of the island of Panarea. By donating it, Piero di Blasi wanted to make an initial tangible contribution to the fledgling Trust. Its ownership of the area enabled the Trust to block the proposed parcelling out of the land, which would most certainly have scarred the wonderful Aeolian landscape. The Cala Junco project made clear that even relatively small areas can constitute an important bulwark to protect the surrounding environment.
